A famous match in ‘62

THE GAA Schools Championship match played in Leixlip in 1962 is still remembered by many, writes Michael Scanlon.

The game had to be abandoned before the final whistle - because Leix1ip supporters assaulted the referee over some wrong decisions.

The county board set the neutral venue of Newbridge for the re match, which Leixlip won. They went on to play Moinasterevin in the final but were beaten

And in 1963, Celbridge got to the final but were beaten by Monasterevin too.
